I m hving intel 845GVSR board with on board display and I guess it do not support resolution supported for 19 inch wide monitor. But I want to upgrade my monitor from crt 15 inch to something LCD and most probably 19" .

So.. is it better to upgrade board / display too or buy 17" for time being ?

See if your video card do not support resolution for 19" wide monitor then its a waste to buy it, either buy new board or upgrade your system to take the full advantage of your new widescreen monitor.
