Indian shares were flat in early trade on Thursday, as weak Asian peers pushed investors to take profits on a 3 percent rally over the past two weeks.
At 9:57 a.m. (0427 GMT), the 30-share BSE index .BSESN was flat at 17,119.28 points, with 12 stocks declining.
Mahindra Satyam Ltd (SATY.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) bucked the trend and rose more than 8 percent after it said on Wednesday it would pay $70 million to Britain-based Upaid Systems Ltd in a patent suit settlement which analysts says lifts uncertainty from the Indian technology outsourcer.
The 50-share NSE index .NSEI was down 0.1 percent at 5,103.65.
