Give zero import tax for LCD TV and Monitors.
Just that rule change by the GOI.
Lets do some maths here.
There are about 50 million Computer users in India ( or more and increasing.)
Each CRT monitor consumes 120 Watts.
Say 5 hours a day = 600 watts./day
Take LCD monitor:
Consumption: 50 watts.
Say for 5 hours: 250 watts / day
Savings:
So if we substitute a CRT with a LCD monitor, the energy saving is 350 watts / day / computer.
At Rs 2 per unit: This is 2 x 0.350 = 70 Paise / day in Savings. or Rs 255 / Year.
For 50 Million computers that would be = 12750 Million Rs. / Year.
Enough to run 10,000 schools or clinics free of charge.?
Plus that much energy saved, less grid loading and less money to be paid for foreign oil.
Now, apply the same rule for LCD TVs.
India has about 100 million TVs
The energy savings would be even higher.
But to this day, there is no such pro-active policy. why ?
The Finance ministry/ commerce are a typical text book case of unimaginative thinking.
No vision, no concepts.
Just Paper mandarins running a ministry.
Bombay is having now 7 hours of power cut daily due to shortage.
The same or even more power shortage is all over India.
Really a crazy situation.
A situation that can be solved or mitigated by simple paper rule change.
