BCCI and WADA
Should we support the BCCI on its stand in not it not accepting the ‘whereabouts’clause?
Yes we most certainly should. As the issue goes,BCCI is not against the testing of its players. WADA wants to know the whereabout of the players 3 months in advance and if they miss any three doping tests over 18 months, they will face a ban of upto 2 years. As the President of BCCI, Manohar Shankar said that the particular clause was unreasonable and violation of privacy. He explained it how, "We believe the clause with regard to whereabouts of cricketers is unreasonable for three reasons. Firstly, some Indian cricketers have security cover, and when you have a security cover, you cannot dislose whereabouts to a third person. Secondly, the privacy of individuals cannot be invaded. Third, the constitution of India gives a guarantee to every citizen regarding his privacy which cannot be invaded," (said by Manohar)
Here the most important thing is that the players are not to resort to any steriod abuse for the purpose of increasing the stamina or fitness. The players are in agreement of having the tests. They are ready to make themselves available for the testing if they are given 24-72 hours notice. What more can they do? More so the players association of New Zealand and South Africa share the same issues as the Indian players, but have accepted to the terms and conditions. Yes rules should be the same for everyone. But rules should be made for the benefit of the players. All should be in agreement to the terms and conditions in order for proper execution of the policy. When the players are not happy, in the future there will be misunderstanding taking place and a cold war going on within.
We as Indians should back our players. Hats off to them, when they did not feel that they would be able to do justice to a particular clause, they came out and said it instead of nodding their heads like puppets. Just because everybody else is doing it, does not mean that we to should do the same. We have a mind of our own, and we are expressing our views and reasonings frankly. That’s whats important. Then why not back up the players who practice 365 days and win matches for the country and its people. Why should the people question their decision now? Definitely I back the BCCI. I back our players in the team.
Jai Ho !
