Bharti Airtel on 19 June 2013 slashed the charges of data usage by 90 percent for the pre-paid subscribers in Punjab and Haryana. This was done in view of competition. The slashing of the rates came a day after the competitor Vodafone diminished its charges by 80 percent for both pre-paid as well as post-paid customers in three circles, i.e., Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh circles.
Airtel announced that Volume Based Charges (VBC) on the recharge vouchers of 2G data usage of three denominations were brought down to 1 paisa per 10 KB from 10 paisa per 10 KB, which would make the Internet even more affordable for the subscribers. The recharge vouchers of 22 Rupees, 25 Rupees as well as 125 Rupees carry the free download limit of 125 MB for five days, 150 MB for seven days and 1 GB for 28 days.
