Bollywood Movie Review : Om Shanti Om : Hindi Movie
The Concept
Movie is based on concept of rebirth of a person who died in 1970 and then later on born in today's world then trying to uncover the reason for his death. Movie is packed with surprises every second moment, total entertainer, a real bollywood Masala movie. Plot or inspiration taken from several movies and combined together.
The Movie
Om Prakash Makhija (Shahrukh Khan) is a junior artist of 1970's who has dream to become a superstar one day. There is a superstar ie. Shanti (Deepika Pedukone), Om is die hard fan of this star and he is also madly in love with her. Fortunately, he came to know her closely when a fire accident occurs on a shooting set where he get chance to give his intro to Shanti. But later he came to know that Shanti is married to Mukesh Mehra, a Director (Arjun Rampal) and Mukesh Mehra kills her when he came to know that she is pregnant.
Om Prakash dies in mishap with Mehra's men when he became witness of the truth of Shanti's death.
Then there is rebirth of Om as Om Kapoor as a son of famous movies star , as he grew up, he remembers his past life and then with Sandy (clone of Shanti ironically) he decides to unfold truth of Shanti's death to the world and uncover reality of Mukesh Mehra who is now in Hollywood.
Conclusion
If you are going to watch movie with if, buts, why? When? where? then this movie is major disappointment. If you have watched Mein Hun Naa then you can consider this movie as a sequel based on same theme ie. humour and total humour and no questions. I had same sort of feeling after watching Mein Hun Naa as I find with Om Shanti Om. At one side I was happy that I got total paisa wasool, you can't guess what is coming next and most of the time its surprising but on the other hand, movie got too much irrational.
Shahrukh's performance is so so in this movie, he has played comic nicely but again if you have "if and buts" then Shahrukh as Om Prakash and Shahrukh as Om Kapoor may disturb you a lot as it seems truely untrue even if you consider rebirth as coincidence but you can't accept coincidence about similarity in new and old Shahrukh in movie. Director could have done something better ie. Farah Khan.
On the other hand, Farah Khan has nicely stitched everything in sequence and can keep you sticked to your seats.
Overall, a good entertainer but at the cost of no LOGIC. Watch it as "Laughter Challenge Movie" before interval and "Fun filled mystry" after Interval and you will get smiling face when you will get out of theater.
