The simmering feud between the Indian and Australian cricket teams is again in danger of boiling over into a sledge-fest during the tri-series finals Down Under. India emphatically beat Sri Lanka on the cricket field on Tuesday to earn the right to contest the Aussies for the CB series title, but the real sparks flew elsewhere.
Stirring an already overheated cauldron, Australian opener Matthew Hayden on Tuesday called Indian Spinner Harbhajan Singh an “Obnoxious weed”. The remark comes a day after Indian skipper M S Dhoni repeated his concerns about Australia’s sledging tactics, and could well push relations between the two teams to another ugly low.
Hayden told Brisbane Radio, “It’s been a bit of a long battle with Harbhajan. The first time I ever met him he was the same little obnoxious weed that he is now. His record speaks for itself in cricket. There is a certain line that you can kind of go to and then you know where you push it and he just pushes it all the time.”
