Half an hour exercise is enough to maintain the good look and health but many factors are also in consideration to build muscles like - balanced diet, stress free life, positive attitude and punctuality of doing any task without any gap or excuse. Yoga and meditation is also helpful in the improvement of personality.
It depends upon what you are looking for. If you want to build muscle and increase size then 1 hour exercise is adviced. Also depending upon type of body, exercise requirements varies person to person.
One hour's exercise for at least 4 days in a week would be ideal. Don't just go the gym. Try to play a sport once in a while. Even Gully cricket will do but try to play some or the other sport. Sports develop functional strength of the body.
Well it all depends on how you are now and how you like to look.
