AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI: MOVIE REVIEW
APKGK as the movie previews show is a fulfilled entertainer by Raj Kumar Santoshi, the director of ‘Andaz Apna Apna Fame’.
The movie is about Prem (Ranbir Kapoor) who is a 9th standard drop out and President of ‘Happy Club’ formed with five friends who help lovers to get united. His mission in life is to be happy and make everyone around him happy. He is from a middle class Hindu family and has a love-hate relationship with his father [Darshan Jariwala] .
Jenny(Katrina Kaif) on the other hand is a Christian girl who is under foster care. All she wants is to love and be loved in return.
Now coming to the story where our dear Prem falls in love with Jenny and does everything possible to impress her only to realize that she is in love with Rahul (Upen Patel ) but is forced to marry Tony who is from a rich family. Prem makes jenny run away with Rahul on her wedding day even though he loves her but is unable to express it. Rahul’s father is a minister and he is against the marriage because of the different religions. Prem convinces every one and helps Jenny till the end. Thankfully Jenny realizes towards the end that Prem is the perfect guy for her.
Well the movie is a strictly an entertainer and has beautiful music by Pritam to keep it alive. It is a bit long and some scenes need to be chopped off as it might put off the audience. It has been written with one sole purpose in mind, ‘to let loose and laugh’ and it does that. The first hour of the movie is like a roller coaster ride and you will fall in love with Ranbir, he performs his role excellently and effectively. Katrina matches him step to step and their chemistry is electrifying. The part where both stammer and Katrina thinks Ranbir is imitating or Salma’s cameo or all the antiques that Ranbir does for Katrina, add life to the movie.
It’s just that in the second half, the movie drags a bit and the humor looks forced. The movie is still worth watching once.
OVERALL VIEWING : 3.5/5 STARS
