Videocon, one of leading manufacturer in consumer electronics and mobile manufacturers in India has been reportedly aiming to bring 4G services to India this year. Videocon is expected to roll out 4G services in India from July and is expected to use the 1800MHz spectrum, which it acquired last year.
Videocon had won licenses in six telecom circles - Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh (East and West), and Jharkhand in the 2G spectrum auction which were held last year. The next-gen 4G LTE network is said to be 10 times faster than the currently available 3G networks.
The service will be made available to users in Videocon's newly picked up telecom circles, alongside 2G and 3G connectivity options. These areas include Jharkhand, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, and Haryana. Other players including aircel and Tikona Digital are expected to roll out 4G services soon as well.
Arvind Bali, director and CEO, Videocon Mobile Services, was quoted by the telegraph as saying, “Following a successful spectrum allocation, we seek to provide subscribers with enhanced 4G network across the newly won circles in the second half of 2013 which will enable deliverance of best services and great value-for-money products to consumers.” He said that the company currently holds a market share of 15-18 percent in Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh circles.
Videocon joins other local operators such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infotel, Tikona Digital, and Aircel in the race to offer high-speed data services, The Telegraph India noted. Airtel was the first telco in India to launch 4G services in April last year, starting in Kolkata. Tikona Digital, Aircel and Infotel will launch their 4G services in the second half of this year, it said.
