KILLER ROBOT
The incident in South Korea, where a worker lost his life due to a robot's malfunction, serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and potential risks associated with the advancement of technology. While automation and robotics have brought significant advancements in various industries, it's essential to recognize that with these innovations come a responsibility to ensure safety. As we continue to integrate advanced technologies into our workplaces and daily lives, it is crucial to prioritize rigorous safety measures, training, and regulatory oversight. This tragic incident underscores the importance of striking a balance between technological progress and safeguarding human lives.
Here is the whole story about the incident -:
A robot killed a man in South Korea by mistaking him for a vegetable box, according to reports.
The man, who worked for the robotics company that made the robot, was testing its sensors at a pepper sorting facility in South Gyeongsang province. He was supposed to do the test on 8 November, but it was delayed by two days because of some sensor issues.
While he was doing the test on Wednesday night, the robot malfunctioned and grabbed him with its arm. It then pressed his upper body against the belt that moved the boxes, causing severe damage to his face and chest. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive.
The robot’s job was to pick up boxes of peppers and place them on pallets, Yonhap news agency reported, citing the police.
This was the second time this year that a robot harmed a human in South Korea. In March, a robot trapped a man in his 50s at a car parts factory and injured him badly.
After the latest incident, the owner of the pepper plant said that there should be a better and safer system for working with robots.
