Microsoft bids $44.6 billion for Yahoo : The Unsolicited Bid (as yahoo says)

    Advert.
If this happens then it is really going to be the biggest every acquisition in the IT history. It will surely give an Microsoft an EDGE over Google.

It is clearly visible from stats that neither Yahoo, nor MSN ie. Microsoft is able to compete with Google. On the other hand Google is expanding its area by developing and acquiring new projects and areas.

Now when do we get the answer from Yahoo about the Bid ?
In a brief FAQ posted to its Web site, Yahoo says it is "undertaking a deliberate review process" and warns it could "take quite a bit of time, will include evaluating all of the Company's strategic alternatives--including maintaining Yahoo as an independent company."

The move would be by far the largest acquisition ever for Microsoft. Its largest prior deal, also in the online-advertising space, was last year's $6 billion deal to acquire Aquantive.

Well, if no is getting benefited but Shareholders already started getting the benefit as its share price saw nice jump after this Bid got public.

    Lets add to it..

Google comes to aid yahoo, this is the new news
Google Inc has joined the Internet war by offering its help in any effort to thwart its chief rival Microsoft Corp's unsolicited $44.6 bn bid for Yahoo!, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.

Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt called Yahoo! Inc CEO Jerry Yang to offer his company's help as Yahoo! assessed its options for responding to Microsoft's aggressive "bear hug" bid, which has sent aftershocks through the media and technology industries.

to be impartial Microsoft made their mind open - later they have bidded - both re not to be called unsolicited in corporates' M&A.

officials of both sides are discussiong - then how can we call the bid unsolicited.

negetive side of the deal -

yahoo share price (market value) is less - yahoo cannot have upper hand

google is sitting on side walls to out wit the deal

Microsoft is now talking of hostile take-over, which clearly shows that Microsoft officials have fear that they may be losinmg the deal.

Even Microsoft succeeds, there will be further delays - as Monoploy Restrictive POractices (both American Law as well as International Laws, European laws) may be a big problem for Microsoft.

    let us wait for results.

Re: Microsoft bids $44.6 billion for Yahoo : The Unsolicited Bid (as yahoo says)

there is no responses as of now.

flip side/advantage of Microsoft in taking over Yahoo is that Microsoft can reduce competition to MSN, Live, etc., for Internet and email world - they can increase the advertisement revenue - if Microsoft succeeds in Yahoo M&A, the content development (becuase of popular successful products) will be highly competitive and over period of time, the costly takeover will become cheaper and they can have better ROI because of monopoly in Window platform.

the negative side of Microsoft is they have to work with others platform also - where they may be losing to Google - as they are undoubtly leaders in internet applications.

Ofcourse, I am looking into this from long.
Its obvious that MSN will have advantage. Right now Google is king, Google hold major part of search world, where Yahoo and MSN are loosing with considerably high rate. MSN is actually lagging little more than Yahoo.
So it will be a nice if two separate entities combines together to stand against google.

Btw, about response, I see that lots of people come over eTI but mostly decides to take information and then moves away.

Re: Microsoft bids $44.6 billion for Yahoo : The Unsolicited Bid (as yahoo says)

I am happy if lots of people come over eTI and take information.

few with whole hearted participation (without bias) will make the mission successful.

Microsoft taking over yahoo in one way is good - the feel good Yahoo will further improve the content delivery - no doubt.

but ethically, I am not in favour of Microsoft entry in Internet explorer/Internet viz. IE/MSN/LIVE IN, etc., and adding up Yahoo under its slavery list.
It will give monopoly to one Corporate which will kill other compoetitor and world has to live with only with one Corporate for Platofrom, application software, internet, etc., which is not good even for Microsoft. World will grow only with competition - say equal competition. If one is unequal to other - then the entire industry itself will die - it will then lead to end of entire Software Industry if Microsoft grow unequal to others - again and again -- it is not good for Microsoft itself.

World expect that Microsoft should separate each functrion viz. (1) Platform (OS), application Softwares, RDBM, and give freedom to internet world. In fact close association between Microsoft + INTEL itself is a happy welcome to the world. As of now their integration is cheaper, cost effective and helps the users (even for school student) - but how long? Monoployness will make them lazzy over a period of time -- more greedyness will land any one into trouble.

do any one knows that once IBM, Xerox never sell their Product , but give them only on short term lease, because of monopoly (this may be a news for youngsters!) - Now where are they - where they landed up because of monopoly. Corporates should learn lessons from History.

a short term benefit will not be an answer for long term solution (survival of Software Industry as a whole).
