Hi.. DDR2 RAM is definitely better than DDR1, if you have DDR1 RAM then you cannot use DDR2 because most probably your board only support DDR1 RAM.

Though DDR2 RAM costs around Rs. 900 for 1 GB.. should be lesser but not more than that. Ya, Corsair may be little costly.
