The much awaited cheapest android tablet, Aakash upgraded version or popularly known as Aakash 2 will not be launched this year. Datawind, which makes Aakash tablet for the Government Of India has confirmed that there will be delays in launch of Aakash 2. DataWind spokesperson said on this, "The improved version of Aakash tablet will be available in retail outlets by January end. The delay is reportedly due to up-gradation and some unforeseen problems in manufacturing”.
Datawind had earlier planed that to launch the upgraded version in beginning of next year, but due to some unforeseen problems in manufacturing in it will not be possible to launch upgraded version by the starting of 2012. Aakash 2 will have a seven inch touch screen. It will also feature ARM 11 processor with 2.2 Android operating system. It will offers it users 2 USB Ports. However the RAM and internal memory will remain same as earlier versions at 256MB RAM with 2Gb of storage respectively. The upgraded version will run at 700Mhz which will be much faster than 366Mhz which used to run in earlier version.
The only positive thing about this delay is that users will get an more advanced version will will be more efficient and faster than Aakash. This project is already making buzz and hopefully on hitting retail store, it should get grand opening.
