IPS officer arrested for illegal possession of heroin

An Enforcement Directorate(ED) official, who is an IPS officer and who once dealt with narcotics offences, has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad(ATS) for allegedy trying to sell heroin in suburban Oshiwara.
Saji Mohan (41), a deputy director in ED's Kochi unit and a 1995 batch India Police Service (IPS) officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was nabbed in a club yesterday when he allegedly came to collect money for his earlier heroin consignments, police said today. He was arrested under section 8C and 21 of NDPS Act and remanded to police custody till January 30.
"Acting on a tip off, police laid a trap in the club.
12 kgs heroin, a laptop and some CDs were recovered after nabbing him," ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said. Mohan served as a zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau in Chandigarh in 2007 and 2008.
The police learnt about a huge drugs racket and involvement of a senior IPS officer after the arrest of two persons by ATS officials on January 17, Raghuvanshi said.
"We had received information that two persons carrying heroin would come to Oshiwara. Accordingly, we intercepted a Maruti car in suburban Oshiwara and arrested Vicky Oberoi(56) and Rajesh Kumar (30)," Raghuvanshi said, adding the investigations into the case revealed that a senior IPS officer was involved in the racket.
"Subsequently, we held Mohan, an 1995 batch IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre. He served as zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau in Chandigarh in 2007 and 2008. Now, he is a deputy director of Enforcement Directorate in Kochi," Raghuvanshi added.
